A new concept, evolved
The new Takeri concept is the evolution of another recently-released Mazda concept, the Shinari, and hints at a future Mazda production sedan. The Takeri has its world premiere at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show.
The concept is full of several new Mazda technologies. It gets multiple SkyActiv features, including a clean diesel engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. The concept also incorporates the world’s first engine idle stopping feature used with a diesel engine, allowing for less wasted fuel when stopped, for example, at a red light.
Mazda’s new i-ELOOP regeneration braking system is also used in the Takeri, adding yet another technology that’s meant to improve fuel economy.
The exterior uses Mazda’s KODO (“Soul of Motion”) design theme, and features deeply-set headlamps, a chiselled front end design, and a cabin that is positioned further back, all combining to convey sportiness and strength. The concept is fitted with 20-inch tires.
The front-wheel drive Takeri seats up to four occupants and has a wheelbase of 2,830 mm. The suspension is composed of MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link setup in the rear, with front and rear ventilated disc brakes.
